There will also be a reduction in the maximum unemployment benefits to 73 weeks from 99 for those hardest hit

The above information for the unemployed doesn't seem to be of enough importance to tell the people. I do. Also, by taking it from Social Security, they sure have found a way to end Social Security for the people.

Comments/opinions welcome

but aren't they supposedly promising to pay into the "fund" to replace this potential loss?

The increase of $84, etc will not pay for the increase of the costs of goods, ie meat, toilet paper, grains, produce, etc. So, it is an even wipe-out. Looks good in the newspaper.

Any increase in the salary of a working person is appreciated, until they realize the cost of those few dollars. Wouldn't it still be better to hire more workers, so that the advantage of employment is spread wider?

Any loss to the SS program is just another way of stealing from the invisible "gray hairs". My theory is that babies and the elders become such easy targets, as no one really "sees" anyone that they can not identify. "What did the baby, look like"? " I don't know". "It, was a baby, for cryin out loud"!

"What did the old man, look like"? "Who, knows"? "It was an old man"!!!!!!

No one sees the most vulnerable as "human beings" that count. Hence, cuts to programs for children, don't matter when the politician feels NO pain. Somewhere in society, they believe that all OLD folks, "must" have money. These brain-less wonders, do not reallize that in a generation of workers, they paid their bills....they supported their children.....they bought their homes.....they helped "their" parents and the little bit left went into the bank for a "rainey day". That pittance of bills has now paid for a higher cost of meds, children in need.....and plans for a memorial service after the doctor kicks them off the list of needing to be saved, for afterall they are "OLD"!

Frankly, as the elders get closer to leaving this miserable land as pollution kills the beauty of it...and people turn to hatred instead of care as their moniker....the elders will be leaving behind a mess of people that will never know how nice it "used to be". Kind of feel sorry for those "youngsters", who are screwing up, now...for they don't have any hope of a better day as they have to live a lot more years, in this mess that they have helped to create.

Amen! Let the truth be told and may it rule at least amongst the elders.

Its funny that none of these articles ever mention the fact that the payroll tax cut is reducing the solvency of Social Security ever further.

But hey... thats in the future.. let the next President worry about that even larger problem. Then they will have to find a way to kick that can a bit further.

Note also that this is a continuation of a tax cut we already have so nobody is seeing any increase in take home dollars, they already have it.

DR, Thank you for the article.

As an elder, I've been witness and victim to Obamacareless. Because of Obamacareless It took 6 months for my healthcare to diagnose a very terminal problem because many diagnostics have been eliminated for Medicare coverage and medications came down to only the last chance (not Rx in the PDR list for my condition) to alleviate one of the affects. My group of doctors, Primary, Cardiologist, pulminary, transplant, pain, and several heart and research stem cell specialists; had little hope the med would work but we agreed to try it. My test results are now being used in lectures for Residents.

Not that my condition is new, but a new awareness over the last 3 yrs. of what causes it by current research. Like in the past, people died from "consumption" because doctors didn't know the various causes. There is no cure, yet! Socialized healthcare will prevent further research.

I'm designated too old for a transplant and Medicare won't pay even a part of it.

But, back to the topic.

Democats are starting to sound more conservative out of fear they may not be re-elected in November. They will take the credit for extending something already in place. No change is better than an increase in deductions in an election year.

ps. in a possibility it may help others I will reveal my diagnosis and they can find out about it on the I-net. "Diastolic Heart Failure." The last test that nailed it was a pulminary stress test mostly used for athletes performance. A normal increase in diastole pressure is 35 or more, mine was 10 and was almost put in hospital after, it was a difficult test. Symptoms I had; shortness of breath, dizzyness on the slightest of excertion, congestion and coughing, and overall weakness.

I'm not telling this for sympathy. But for the awareness of others who may not yet be diagnosed because of its newness. The test was on a stationary bike and a breath analyser mask with BP taken minute by minute. because of my condition a pulmanary specialist and doctor were present and lasted 20 minutes until they called a halt.

The medication has relieved the constant dizzyness. It is a calcium blocker. Amplodamine
